Klangendum is in 2013 opgericht door Lukas Simonis en Henk Bakker, beide samenwerkend in Stichting Worm Te Rotterdam en aldaar producenten van talloze producties op het gebied van Radio, Studio en Stage events- van memorabel tot controversieel. Producties die de wereld over gingen en gaan middels een groot netwerk van onafhankelijke en innovatieve radiostations- zoals het Radia.fm, waaronder Resonance Fm (London) Soundartradio (UK), Curious Broadcast (Ierland) en Orange (Wenen). Verder WMFU (NEW JERSEY), ORF (Oostenrijk) en hier te lande onder andere de Vpro, de Nos, Concertzender, Radio Patapoe, en op Festivals als Inqubate en Strp.

Klangendum produceert!

Als partner van Worm organiseren we Studio Residencies en Workshops variërend van Geluids Synthese, Pure Data, Ableton Live tot Field Recording en Zelfbouw van instrumenten. We produceren wekelijks een radioshow op de Concertzender en met enige regelmaat een show voor het Radia Netwerk. We verzorgen uitgaves van ons werk in de vorm van CD’s, Platen en Cassettes. We hebben een groot digitaal archief van live concerten en studio residencies

Onze interesses en specialisaties liggen in het maken en produceren van Hoorspel, Documentaire en Fictieve Radioprogrammas, Geluid en Ruimtelijke Projecten, Soundwalks en Installaties. We manifesteren ons ook door middel van Concerten, Live Radio Happenings en Live Hoorspel Uitvoeringen. We Houden van Geluid en Woord in spannende en gevariëerde muzikale settings, en we bedienen ons van alle stijlen, ook in die van het hoorspel.

We beheren sinds enige jaren de Cem/Worm Analoge Geluids Studio. In en Rondom de Studio organiseren we Residencies en Workshops. We houden van Zelfbouw, DIY, en Experiment naast onze fijne Vintage Synthesizers en Analoge Apparatuur. In de Studio leggen we ook fysiek verbinding tussen Analoog en Digitaal, Patchen met kabels maar ook zodat je met Midi aan de slag kunt, en dat je betrekkelijk eenvoudig opnames van je werk kunt maken.

Op het gebied van Educatie zijn we ook al langere tijd actief, onder andere in het organiseren en aanbieden van Workshop Modules voor het Voortgezet Onderwijs, als Coaches voor eerste en tweede fase Kunstonderwijs (Codarts, WdeK, Fontys) en als Producent van Workshops door specialisten op het gebied van Editing en Production Software, Hardware en Klanksynthese in de Analoge Studio, DYI! Maaksels zoals Zelfbouw instrumenten, en inhoudelijk Workshops over Field Recording, Hoorspel maken en Song schrijven, Muziek en Performance Productie.

RadioRadio

RADIO RADIO was radio als eeuwigdurende zoektocht naar een podium
voor onalledaagsheid; zowel op radiofonisch/ geluids gebied als op documentair
sociologisch gebied.
In het kort gezegd; eind jaren 90 inspireerde de electronische revolutie in de rock &
experimentele muziek ons tot de gedachte dat het live optreden eigenlijk net zo goed als radio gebracht kon worden (omdat het ‘performance’ element ten enemale ontbrak).
Tegenwoordig inspireert de ‘content is overal’-revolutie ons tot de gedachte dat we juist moeten inzetten op een ‘schaarste’ revival.
Als de podcasten en streaming content voor het oprapen ligt is het misschien zaak van de radio weer een ‘hot medium’ te maken bijvoorbeeld door middel van onherhaalbaarheid zoals ons RADIO RADIO evenementen. Hoewel het geheel ook live gestreamed werd en dus eigenlijk als ‘radio’ uitzending (met beeld`) over de gehele wereld te volgen was.
Het programma bestond uit korte interviews met alle betrokkenen, Composities en geluidswandelingen die in opdracht van WORM waren gemaakt en een live-hoorspel.

Er waren drie afleveringen van Radio Radio, die later ook op VPRO’s Cafe Sonore werden uitgezonden.

Cerebro is the result of the meeting between Nathalie Blanc, geograph-poet andSemoNO!LinA/Amaury Bourget, musician. During 2008/09, they worked together and composed 3 pieces with the texts written and read by Nathalie Blanc.
Acrobatic science fiction, this text tempts to cavort in limbo of a little bit atmospheric reflection, but which try to exhaust the detail of what is expressed here exactly, that is to say the future, our future…
These pieces are written to be live played, what the duet will make in particular for the Poetry international biennial event in Val-de-Marne, in 2009.
As suggested by JetFM, the project has been “updated” in a version which becomes trilingual (French, Portuguese, English) and accomodated musically.

Hoofdonderwerp van deze RADIO RADIO is het geluidswandelen. In het laatste nummer van Gonzo Circus stond er al een interressant stuk over deze tamelijk nieuwe discipline en wij willen de discussie nog enigszins uitdiepen; enerzijds door met de producenten van geluidswandelingen te praten (Michiel Huijsman en Renate Zentschnig van SoundtrackCity), anderzijds door zelf de aanzet te geven tot een drietal geluidswandelinge waarvan er vanavond twee worden gepresenteerd. Wat betekent dat we een kort gesprek met de makers hebben,en ook dat vanaf de 22e juni 2013 WORM het verzamelpunt zal zijn van de in Rotterdam (en door Soundtrackcity samen met Stichting Klangendum geproduceerde) gesitueerde geluidswandelingen.

Fake Tanken, een Live Hoorspel door Han Buhrs en Nora Mulder

De twee houden zich nadrukkelijk bezig met actuele muziek maar staan kritisch tegenover trends en kortademige opwinding. In hun werk vermengt de tijdgeest zich met noties over het hoe of wat van ‘zijn’, gehakketak versus de langere lijn, breaking news als interruptie van meer fundamentele bespiegelingen. Dat levert een wat dieper stekend realisme op dan de ultrakorte ‘events’ waarmee de mediaconsument momenteel zo’n beetje gezandstraald wordt.
Mulder en Buhrs proberen niet amechtig het moment te vangen, want dan zouden ze liever zwijgen. Evenmin componeren ze voor de eeuwigheid door te pogen via alomvattende filosofische thema’s het ‘nu’ te duiden. Zij proberen het heden te begrijpen door in de grabbelton van impulsen en opwinding verbintenissen te zoeken met meer fundamentele thema’s zoals dreigende onthechting en totale vervreemding.
*zoals: handboorcymbalspeler, bonensnijderbongoflapper, rolgordijn met handmixer, reuzenstemvorken en aangeblazen orgelpijpen.

Hessel Veldman

Veldman (1956) is sinds 2004 werkzaam voor de Concertzender als programmamaker en sinds 2009 als coördinator / redacteur. Wij kenden hem voordien als muzikant in het onovertroffen Gorgonzola Legs (oa. Met GJ Prins), als cassett mogul achter het label Exart, en van zijn samenwerkingen op radio gebied met oa. Willem De Ridder.
Zijn verschijnen op juist deze avond heeft te maken met een van zijn favoriete radioproducties; Europe In Flames.

Het programma bestaat uit interviews met alle betrokken, twee Tape Composities die in opdracht van WORM zijn gemaakt, een live-hoorspel, een Radio Performance en tot besluit een muziekoptreden.

Armeno Alberts

Armeno Alberts is de laatste der Mohikanen, te weten; de enige persoon (zo’n beetje) die binnen het NL Omroepbestel nog aan KUNSTRADIO doet. We hopen dat ie het volgende jachtseizoen der zendercoördinatorren overleeft… Check zn programma; Cafe Sonore op radio 6/VPRO. Vanavond gaat Armeno de avond inleiden en presenteren.

Truus De Groot

Truus de Groot’s musical career spans over the last 3 decades. Born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands she debuted as a chanteuse just at the beginning of the Punk craze in 1976. Playing in a number of Dutch bands she released her first single in 1979 on the Plurex Label with a duet called “BandT Plus Instruments”. Playing odd electronic instruments, Bass and vocals, most of their performances were improvised. She teamed up Michel Waisvisz, the inventor of the Crackle Synthesizer in numerous performances. At the same time she was also the lead singer in the popular Dutch New Wave Band “Nasmak”. Who released an album, again on the Plurex Label, in 1980, “Instruments Plus Nasmak / Nasmak Plus Instruments”.

The Tobacconists

In April 2009, Scott Foust (Idea Fire Company, XX Committe, Tart, and the Swill Radio label) was invited to screen his feature length movie Here’s To Love in Europe, as well as staging his The Four Accomplishments performance. The trip to
Europe also gave him the opportunity to join musical hands with Frans de Waard (Beequeen, Freiband, Shifts, Kapotte Muziek), who had been on tour with Idea Fire Company in 2005, resulting in the IFCO album Vital – Live In Europe. As both Scott
and Frans are heavy smokers, they settled upon The Tobacconists as the name for their collaborative musical venture (Ashtray Temple was considered, then rejected).
Scott and Frans got to work in the Extrapool studio, composing six pieces using a small keyboard, an echo machine, a radio, some pre-recorded tapes, a laptop, and some contact microphones. Then, they took the road to perform in the Netherlands,
Germany, Belgium and the UK. At the end of their tour, they spent a week conducting proper studio recordings of all six pieces plus a seventh, ‘The Dark Secrets Of Dr. Perati’, which was released as a 7” by Plinkity Plonk/Swill Radio. The original six pieces from the tour, now in glorious full mixed version will be released on LP very early 2012 by Economy Of Brevity (UK), along with a bonus CD with their 2011 radio play ‘Smoking Is Green’– a radiophonic opera in four cigarettes.

Daniela de Paulis

OPTICKS borrows its name from the pivotal essay by Isaac Newton on light refraction.
OPTICKS is a live performance during which digital images are sent to the moon in form of radio signals from a dish situated in Brazil, the UK or Switzerland and received back by Dwingeloo radio telescope in The Netherlands. The ‘moonbounced’ images are projected in real time during the performance and accompanied by sounds composed for the project by musician and sound researcher Marty Quinn. The conceptual framework for the sounds is also based on Newton’s theories: the great scientist dedicated in fact part of his research to the representation of a ‘colour music disc’ in which he associated each colour of the light spectrum to a musical note. The performance is introduced by live sounds of amateurs radio signals captured by the Dwingeloo antenna tracking the moon.

Future Sound Of Folk Tape Composition

The Future Sound Of Folk -One Man Nation, Jimbot and Bambu Wukir- did a tour in december and spend some time at the WORM studios, i think it was their first time together in a studio. So they made lots of stuff and gave us this track. We will play an excerpt from it. Title; Future Movement IV

Kamama Tape Composition

Kamama -Audrey Chen en Luca Marini- did a residency in the WORM studios last december and provided us with 4 great tracks. Tonight we will play one of them, called; ‘ captively assigned’.

Vincent Denieul

Vincent Denieul is a radiomaker/soundartist from Paris. He will talk about his work and maybe show 1 or 2 examples.

Out come the wolves is the second sound piece of Nicolas Perret and Cédric Anglaret’s project The four seasons of Paanjärvi in which, since 2009, they focus on the soundscape of the small russian village of Paanajärvi. Isolated in the thick primary forest of oriental Karelia, Paanajärvi has somehow fallen out of the time. Its inhabitants, the last custodians of the disappearing Karelian culture, live a tough life that is strongly bond to the nature surrounding them.

Winters are harsh in Paanajärvi. At this latitude, the sun doesn’t show much and temperatures remain way below freezing for many months. As winter progresses food gets rare for the wolves. Out of the forest they approach the village at night to attack dogs, that the villagers try to protect by all means. As long as dogs are barking the wolves are still far; once they are silent they are nearby. In the winter of 2012, 23 dogs were eaten by the wolves in Paanajärvi.

Following Out come the wolves, a 6 minutes addition sheds light on the Man who eats dogs.

The four seasons of Paanjärvi is supported by SCAM, Défi Jeune, the Juminkeko Foundation and Radio Grenouille.

DR KLANGENDUM IS COMING!!!!!!!

Er ging iets mis bij de Concertzender vorige week! Vandaar dat de eerste aflevering van Dr Klangendum vandaag -9 juli- wordt uitgezonden.

Dr Klangendum is een programma over maar voornamelijk vol radiofonie, geluidskunst en andere audio-non-visuele misverstanden en vondsten (bedoelt U Fondsen ?). De makers zijn Henk Klangendum Bakker en Lukas Klangendum Simonis, voormalige werknemers- en gevers van de WORM Studio te Rotterdam waar ze radio-programma’s als Radio Worm en de Hørspil Reeks (via VPRO’s Cafe Sonore, nu genomineerd voor de guillotine) de wereld instuurden, en de voormalige CEM studio beheerden. De studio bestaat nog steeds, de activiteiten bestaan ook nog steeds (behalve genoemde ook nog het organiseren van residencies, workshops en eductatie-projecten, het doen van podium producties en het organiseren van experimentele & improv concerten) maar de Worm Studio heeft zich inmiddels afgescheiden van WORM en heet nu Stichting Klangendum… De samenwerking met WORM gaat wel door in de vorm van gezamenlijke producties en ook de locatie van de studio blijft (voorlopig?) dezelfde; in het WORM gebouw.

Dr Klangendum zal geen sleur van een radioprogramma worden… We kunnen niet zo goed tegen de regelmaat van een vast format en iedere keer weer de lijst afwerken… Een vorm van vastigheid is echter onvermijdelijk en die zal bestaan aan een keur van vaste medewerkers (oa. Adam Bohman, Vincent Denieul, Sara Pinheiro, eva.) en een rubriek in samenwerking met het Radia network (zie; radia.fm) waarin iedere week een kunstradio productie zal worden gepresenteerd door een van de leden (de producties duren steevast 28 minuten). Verder staan er een aantal specials op stapel over geluidskunstenaars die we goed vinden, zullen er regelmatig radiofonische hoorspelen worden vertoond (een voortzetting van onze Hørspil Reeks, die nog tot as. januari bij cafe sonore loopt), hebben we een ‘perverse animals’ reeks in de maak en zijn er ook vergevorderde plannen voor radiofonische (weer dat woord, zie het als een eufemisme voor ‘psychedelisch in onbegrepen zin’) documentaires.

“What do you hear in the city? What sounds are only perceptible in the ultrasonic realm, where bats and crickets communicate? Sounds which are so high, our human ears cannot perceive them. This acoustic world becomes audible in Ultrasonic City and they get their place in the sounds of the city and the world.
The urban sound world is quite dense. By extracting the ultrasound I wanted to reveal a sonic universe or even add another layer to the field recordings. When you hear only the ultrasonic layer of the city, you hear a place devoid of human voices. They simply do not reach that high. Some very quiet sounds get enhanced, such as rubbing your fingers together, frottements in French. In a park at sunset you hear the foraging bats, whilst at the same time, our human ears only register ducks, planes and other humans. A swimming pool gets reduced to splashes, you do not hear the children shriek nor play. Plastic, metal, water all produce ultrasounds. With the help of ACSR, I was able to record the same place in the city ultrasonically and with high quality “normal” microphones. This revealing/unravelling/hiding of layers of sound I want to present in this documentary.
